Foundation History

For over 30 years, the Glen Meadows Retirement Community has been an integral part of the Glen Arm, Maryland community. Glen Meadows Retirement Community is a non-profit organization that offers housing and health related services to seniors from throughout the area who call the community home.

To better serve the needs of the residents and the community of Glen Meadows Retirement Community, PSL established an endowment account for the purpose of supporting the community. The fund is used to meet capital needs of the Skilled Nursing Center, the Personal Care residents, and also those who reside in Independent Living as well as to provide continuing education scholarships for members of the Glen Meadows Retirement Community team.

The Foundation in Action

The Glen Meadows Foundation was established to provide guidance in regard to the expenditure of interest income generated by the endowment fund. This board is well-represented by Glen Meadows Retirement Community residents who ensure they represent the residents and community’s needs in all decisions made. In addition to providing guidance on the expenditure of funds, the Board is also actively involved in fundraising to help build the endowment and its generation of funds for use in the community.

Examples of the Board of Directors’ efforts on behalf of their fellow residents and team members include:

  • The Baumbach Scholarship for Nursing
  • The Litsinger Scholarship for Employee Continuing Education
  • Renovations and upgrades to the Common Area in the Personal Care Unit
  • Redesign of the Nursing Station and new flooring in the Skilled Nursing Center
  • Purchase handbells for establishment of a Handbell Choir for entertainment of all residents
