THRIVE Wellness: Our Resident-Driven Approach To Wellness
Welcome to Thrive Wellness, exclusive to Presbyterian Senior Living communities.
What is Thrive Wellness?
Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL) firmly believes in promoting a culture of wellness that extends far beyond just fitness. Our Thrive Wellness program promotes a philosophy of engagement, purposeful living, and meaning in everyday life. Thrive Wellness is resident-driven, explicitly focusing on six dimensions of wellness.
This program was designed collaboratively, with PSL team members and residents working side-by-side, using resident surveys, focus groups, and smaller community group studies to ensure the program is a direct reflection of what residents want to see at their communities.
Thrive Wellness promotes a culture of wellness, engagement, and purposeful living to empower all individuals to live their best lives. This is not a calendar of activities. It’s a culture that encourages everyone to live, and experience life along six dimensions of wellness and purposeful living.
Collaboration is key:
Presbyterian Senior Living is committed to supporting the Thrive Wellness framework across the organization that is led by residents and supported by staff. Experience has shown us successful wellness initiatives can flourish when they are created, driven and implemented by stakeholders themselves.
Opportunities for exchange and growth from Presbyterian Senior Living’s network of distinctive communities:
Thrive Wellness will include sharing experiences and information from all communities between residents and team members. As each community experiences Thrive Wellness in its own way, we will encourage collaboration to enhance the culture of wellness. The main, overarching tenets and key principles of Thrive Wellness will span the entire organization.
The Thrive Wellness Approach
Thrive Wellness is derived from the Six Dimension Model and is consistent with the National Wellness Institute and chosen by the steering group based on residents' feedback. Addressing all six dimensions of wellness will build a holistic sense of wellness and fulfillment.
PSL recognizes that personal satisfaction can often come from the workplace or a career. Vocational wellness is promoted through the individual’s ability to utilize their own unique talents and skillsets. Promoting a positive attitude and utilizing an individual’s own abilities will promote workplace satisfaction. Vocational wellness follows the principle of encouraging individuals to choose a career/profession that is consistent with their own strengths and interests to promote a gratifying profession.
It is no secret that physical activity will support longevity and will improve overall health. PSL encourages physical activity and offers education on healthy food choices and physical exercises for a healthy lifestyle. Physical wellness follows the principle of encouraging individuals to strive to spend time building physical strength, flexibility and endurance to promote overall wellness.
Promoting community connections is very important to PSL. Linking individuals to the community through social interactions will promote a fabric of interconnectivity. Participating in community social interactions and developing friendships will promote social wellness. Social wellness follows the principle of encouraging individuals to contribute and actively participate with those living in their community.
Encouraging creativity and stimulating mental rigor will increase their overall intellectual wellness. PSL believes in expanding individual knowledge or building upon existing knowledge or interests. Many individuals can benefit from cultural excursions and community resources. Developing an individual’s intellectual curiosity will promote intellectual wellness. Intellectual wellness follows the principle of challenging individuals with creative pursuits.
Although residents are not required to belong to a religious institution, PSL believes in supporting an individual’s path to find meaning or purpose. Spiritual wellness follows the principle of tolerance for individual beliefs, religions, and spiritual pursuits.
PSL wants to promote emotional wellness and encourages individuals to embrace its importance for overall well-being. Emotional wellness includes the capacity to manage individual feelings and have a realistic assessment of limitations, a sense of autonomy, and the ability to cope effectively with stress. Emotional wellness follows the principle of understanding one’s own ability to evaluate their own emotions and feelings.
