York County Community Foundation recently awarded Presbyterian Senior Living a generous grant of $8,000 through its Hahn Home Fund for Embracing Aging program. These funds will support the Cupboards of Care initiative in PSL’s eight York County Affordable Housing communities. This will help more than 500 York County seniors of modest means get more mileage out of their income.
The Cupboards of Care food pantries are placed strategically in each community to provide accessibility while maintaining the privacy and anonymity of residents who use them. The pantries are stocked with canned and dry goods, shelf-sustainable foods, and, when possible, fresh produce from local farmers or grocers.
York County Community Foundation’s support will benefit the following communities:
- Westminster Place at Queen Street, York | 50 apartments
- Springwood Overlook, York | 84 apartments
- Stony Brook Gardens, York | 84 apartments
- Westminster Place at Stewartstown, Stewartstown | 96 apartments
- Shrewsbury Courtyards I and II, Shrewsbury | 102 apartments
- Schartner House, Dillsburg | 50 apartments
- Westminster Place at Carroll Village, Dillsburg | 35 apartments
PSL launched Cupboards of Care in early 2023 to address food insecurity among the more than 1,000 senior residents of the PSL Affordable Housing communities.
Residents frequently approach team members to express gratitude for the program and to share the importance of having access to the pantry. By fostering a sense of community support, the Cupboards of Care initiative has enhanced the bond between residents and team members, nurturing a strong sense of connection and trust.
The York County Community Foundation is one of the fastest-growing community foundations in Pennsylvania because it has stepped forward to play a central role in creating a vibrant York County. Tapping into the region’s long-held philanthropic spirit and community pride, YCCF engages donors, provides community leadership, invests in high-impact initiatives, and builds an endowment for future generations. It envisions a growing, united, and prosperous York County that provides unsurpassed opportunities for all.
